W.E.B. Du Bois was a prominent racial leader born in 1868. A well-educated black historian and sociologist, Du Bois was concerned with the fight for racial equality alongside Booker T. Washington, another racial leader. With the publication of his book, The Souls of Black Folks, the Washington-Du Bois debate over the best approach to achieving racial equality heightened.
