Fannie Barrier Williams Biographical Facts:

Born in Brockport, NY on February 12th, 1855.

Was highly educated and graduated from the State Normal School at Brockport in 1870.

She headed south to teach where she was exposed to racism and segregation for the first time.

Married S. Laing Williams in 1887.

Spoke at the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893.

Founded the National League of Colored Women in 1893 and later the National Association of Colored Women in 1896, both alongside Mary Church Terrell.
-
First woman and African-American to be appointed to the Chicago Public Library Board in 1924.
-
Died in Brockport, NY on March 4th, 1944.
